Growing up in rural Western NY state, I have always felt most comfortable when surrounded by nature. My series, Viewfinder, is about the exploration of various parks and other protected natural areas I have traveled to over the past year. With a medium format camera secure in my hiking pack, I set out to document my experiences across the New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey landscape. I found that, while capturing great detail, film was not able to capture the connection I had with my subject. Though I had initially used my iPhone to document the view, as well as the location of my photographs, by shooting the image projected on to the ground glass, I found that I was doing what I wanted initially, and capturing images that would allow the viewer to experience the scene though the viewfinder.
